Working at the direction of the Creative Director for AOC, the Senior Graphic Designer provides concept, design, and production of custom printed collateral and web-based communication pieces for all seven Advancement units using Adobe Creative Suite and other desktop publishing software. Examples of pieces to be produced range from, but are not limited to: brochures, invitations, proposals, programs, flyers, newsletters, posters, presentation materials, and information graphics.
The Senior Graphic Designer cultivates and maintains productive working relationships within a diverse, higher education environment. Must possess strong design and typography skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a creative team. Ability to prioritize projects in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. Responsible for project management, including coordination of production schedules, final art production, development of quality control standards, and other responsibilities as needed. Must follow established university brand style guides/guidelines, and be able to create and re-purpose documents and collateral to those guidelines as well.
The incumbent will apply skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices, marketing, and organizational policies and procedures and resolve a wide range of issues. The incumbent will demonstrate good judgment and an interest in understanding client objectives in order to develop effective marketing and/or communications deliverables in support of Advancement and the Campaign for UC San Diego.

Proven experience in providing graphic solutions to design problems and projects appropriate to audience, budget, and time-frame requirements. Related ability to apply appropriate marketing concepts to publication development.
Experience in the development and production of high-quality publications. Knowledge of the publication process with proven ability to develop and implement production schedules and establish priorities.
Thorough knowledge of applicable publishing software applications. Advanced technical skill and knowledge to utilize Macintosh hardware and related publishing software—InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, among others—to produce publications.
Strong collaboration skills to best meet project goals and objectives of clients. Ability to collaborate with and follow direction and input from supervisory, editorial, and support staff members and clients to complete projects as prescribed.
Demonstrated creative ability and skill in planning the layout and organization of various types of material and formatting text for delivery to graphic artists and printers.
Demonstrated ability to use and interpret standard proofreading notations based on knowledge of the language and in accordance with the most current style manual.
Proven ability to complete design requirements within project budget/cost limitations. Strong problem solving skills with ability to research, analyze, recommend, communicate and implement solutions.
