The School of Hospitality Business in the Eli Broad College of Business is seeking applications for a fixed-term, part-time, lecturer with responsibilities in developing and teaching Introduction to Meeting and Event Planning and Management to undergraduate students. This is a 3-credit introductory course that is offered online. The course covers the processes of planning meeting events and terminology. The intent is to provide students with a knowledge base that will prepare students for more advanced coursework in meeting and event planning and management. Specifically, this online course will identify key elements of planning a meeting or event, key terminology, identify the types of meeting professionals that exist, differentiate between various types of events, and describe the steps to planning a meeting or event from beginning to end. The position is subject to annual review and renewal. Additional summer teaching and administrative opportunities are possible with additional compensation for the ideal candidate. Start date is May 16, 2019.
Bachelors -Communication, Hospitality Business
A minimum of fifteen years of meeting and event planning and management is required.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in communication, hospitality business, management, or related discipline, and relevant event planning work experience. A minimum of fifteen years of meeting and event planning and management is required. The following certification are desired: Certified Meeting Professional (CMP), Certificate in Meeting Management (CMM), and Certified Travel Associate (CTA), or the equivalents. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have experience in developing and delivering an online course. A record of excellent teaching skills at the undergraduate level to a diverse student body is desired.
