STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Staff Associate manages the day-to-day administrative operations of the Advising Center and works in collaboration with the Senior Academic Advisor. Provides support to the New Student Orientation program. The Staff Associate also works collaboratively across the College to support the Advising Center's goals of student success and retention, resulting in comprehensive, big picture solutions to meet the ever-changing needs of the Bristol community.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Dean of Retention.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide support directly to the including, but not limited to, data collection, interpretation, and report development.
Provide support to the New Student Orientation program and staff including, but not limited to, transcript evaluation and assisting students with program-specific registration.
Assist Senior Academic Advisor with the day-to-day operation of the Advising Center.
Analyze course prerequisites, certification, curriculum, and graduation requirements, as well as evaluate student transcripts and records.Responsible for the actual registration, add/drop, and withdrawal functions, including the data entry into the registration system for each student advised.
Maintain constant interaction and follow-up with students; maintain all relevant record keeping and tracking.
Adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines.
Maintain effective working relationships within assigned areas, including faculty, department chairs, deans, staff, and students; working cross-functionally with Enrollment Operations and other departments to improve the student experience and retention.
Assess various situations to determine the importance, urgency, and potential risk involved; and make independent decisions which are timely and in the best interest of the student and College as a whole.
Work under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree required.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a higher education environment.
Demonstrated ability to stay apprised of college policies and procedures.
Demonstrated experience in academic advising, retention management, and/or communication strategies effective for students.
Demonstrated experience utilizing computer applications, including Microsoft Office 365, Banner, Degree Works, Argos, AdvisorTrac, and ability to learn office and College-specific software as needed.
Experience providing support for student development, with demonstrable attentiveness to students.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple projects and responsibilities with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
POSITION STATUS: This is a part-time, non-unit, non-benefitted, 18.5 hours per week position, some nights and weekends may be required.
HIRING SALARY: $15.00 - $22.00 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
