METROPOLITAN STATE UNIVERSITY, Minnesota's public, urban university, and recipient of the 2017 Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire a Dean of Students. This is a full-time, position within the Academic and Student Affairs division. This position is responsible for leadership and vision of the Dean of Students office and all appropriate departments, including: TRIO; Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math-Science; Multicultural, American Indian and Retention Student Services; International Student Services; and, Student Life and Leadership Development. Responsibilities include: hiring, developing, and supervising student services staff in assigned departments; managing short and long-range planning and budgeting; directing the student conduct and complaints and grievances systems; serving as Title IX Coordinator for the campus; implementing and evaluating departmental activities; and, serving on university and system-wide committees and task forces.
The successful candidate will have a record of accomplishment, which demonstrates the following leadership competencies:
Ability to develop, hire, and supervise student services staff within a collecting bargaining environment; departments include: TRIO; Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math-Science; Multicultural, American Indian, and Retention Student Services; International Student Services; and, Student Life and Leadership Development
Ability to manage short and long-range planning and budgeting for the areas of responsibility
Directing the student conduct system, student complaint and grievances system, and student problem resolution
Co-chair the Behavioral Intervention Team and respond accordingly to student needs
Serve as Title IX Coordinator for the campus
Review student registration and financial aid appeals
Implement system and evaluate all student service activities
Serve on university and system-wide committees and task forces
Master's degree in related area
Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience
Understanding of (area of expertise or discipline) needed, specifically Title IX, conduct, TRIO, Upward Bound, International Student Services, and/or Multicultural Affairs
Communication skills (written & verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups including staff, faculty, students, and other key stakeholders
Demonstrated experience in serving and enhancing a culturally and ethnically diverse university community
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with strategic planning and budgeting
Doctorate or other terminal degree
7 years supervisory experience
3 years administrator experience
Experience with Title IX investigations
Experience with conduct or judicial affairs

Salary: This Administrator positon is assigned to a Range 6, as outlined in the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (Minnesota State) Personnel Plan for Administrators (see link below), and is commensurate with education and experience.
