Advertised Summary Job Description: The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Columbia University is seeking a Clinical Coordinator/Registered Nurse. The Clinical Coordinator/Registered Nurse will report to both the Medical Director and Practice Manager. He/She will be responsible for assisting Physicians and Nurse Practitioner, which includes performing tests, injections, and patient education as needed. The Registered Nurse will be expected to anticipate the needs of the practice and the physicians. Other responsibilities include:
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Organize patient charts before their visit and oversee obstetric chart preparation - Accompany physician during consultation and examination - Complete all necessary documentation of the patient encounter in the medical chart including entering orders as dictated by the physician - Perform requested tests on patients as directed by MD, NP, or CNM, including timed blood draws and documentation as appropriate - Administering medication injections and vaccination as directed by MD,NP, or CNM - Provide education and instruction for patients with diabetes - Provide telephone triage, and appropriately document conversations with patients - Administer NST's and accurately document results - Facilitate smooth work flow for physician - Oversee chart preparation with concentration on initial patient visits, ensuring all requested tests, notes, and other paperwork are received prior to visit - Manage patient lab results, involving signing off on all normal test results and escalating all abnormal results to the NP and/or Physicians' attention - Obtain all pending lab reports as needed for providers and file via electronic medical record, alerting the physician as laboratory and radiology results become available - Assist with transfer to labor and delivery if needed and notify the physicians of an obstetrical admission, as well as contact the necessary pharmacy for patient prescriptions or refills - Comply with all hospital, department, and division policies and procedures, and conform to all applicable HIPAA, billing compliance, and safety guidelines - Maintain adequate inventory of clinical supplies - Performs other duties as directed by physician or supervisor and provide coverage to other clinical support staff as needed
General Minimum Qualifications: Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: - OB/GYN experience - Current registered nurse NY state license and maintain and renew as necessary - Possess strong organizational skills and be detail oriented - Excellent verbal/written communication and strong observation and listening skills - Ability to interact effectively and efficiently with patients and co-workers - High level of professionalism and maturity, and the ability to work independently - Computer proficiency with the ability to quickly learn new applications
Preferred Qualifications: Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring
