The School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS) is ranked among US News & World Report's top 50 Engineering Schools, and focuses intellectual efforts on medicine and health, energy and environment, entrepreneurship and security. The school's Department of Computer Science and Engineering conducts high-impact research and trains future researchers, engineers and educators in both the fundamental properties of computing systems and how computation can benefit a wide range of disciplines. Key themes include designing computing systems that interact with humans and the physical world, using computation to interpret large data sets from science and engineering, and creating safe, secure infrastructure to connect millions of people to their data and to each other. From its origin in 1965 as the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, the department has paved the way for computer science departments, awarding the first computer science PhD in the United States. The department employs twenty-six tenured/tenure-track faculty, ten of whom have earned NSF Career Awards. With over 2500 alumni, 300 undergraduate, 80 masters, and 77 doctoral students, the Department continues to produce talented graduates to make their marks in commercial organizations, government, non-profit organizations, and academia.
We are seeking applicants for the position of Lecturer (one year engagement) or Senior Lecturer (three year engagement) in the Computer Science and Engineering program. Over the next several years, the School expects to invest significant resources to build a world-class teaching infrastructure to support the program as well as capitalize on corporate and government engagement with the program. The intent of the program is to produce graduates to meet the ever-increasing demand for highly skilled, technically-adroit engineers. As a teacher you will play a key role in maintaining the School of Engineering and Applied Science’s global reputation for high quality education as well as growing the School’s capacity in education. The candidate will take a leading role in developing, establishing, teaching, and refining core and elective courses and contribute actively to ongoing program strategy and curriculum development.
Develop, assess, improve, and establish courses and content as well as enhance teaching and learning methods.
Assess and implement new and appropriate approaches to learning and teaching.
Collaborate with faculty from Computer Science and Engineering and other departments across the School of Engineering and Applied Science in the development and improvement of curricula and education.
Devise and supervise student projects.
Network and engage with clients in private industry, non-profits, and government clients to integrate practical projects throughout the curriculum that enhance the student experience and add value to those clients.
In concert with teaching responsibilities, identify opportunities for continued professional development to remain at the forefront of cybersecurity technology and research.
Earned Doctorate in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security, Electrical Engineering, or appropriately related discipline. (NOTE: A high-quality Master’s degree in these fields may be considered if professional experience and track record shows clear expertise and excellence in teaching).
Previous teaching experience in a university or 4 year college.
Experience with curriculum and course development and outcomes assessment.
Experience with instructional innovation and online education.
Involvement in professional organizations and communities active in the field of technology and research.
Ability to build and sustain cooperative relationships, positively contribute to the performance of interdisciplinary work teams, and produce results.
Ability to work with diverse constituencies and staff.
Established excellence in written and oral communication.
Competitive and commensurate with experience, academic qualifications, and teaching load.
