Working within the Office of Technology Development (OTD), under the guidance and supervision of the Directors of Business Development (DBDs), this position will assist in the identification, qualification, and quantification of commercial applications for physical sciences technologies developed within the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The individual in this position will conduct both primary and secondary market research to find potential applications for these innovations; assist DBDs in managing a portfolio of existing technologies ; review and assess new invention disclosures arising from research conducted by Harvard faculty, post-docs, and graduate students; prepare and draft technology profiles for marketing and licensing efforts; assess the competitive environment with respect to the technologies; perform due diligence and market research to identify potential licensees and industrial partners; develop innovative strategies for the development and commercialization of Harvard technologies; assist DBDs in managing outside patent counsel in preparation and prosecution of patent applications; negotiate options, confidentiality, and inter-institutional agreements, and certain industry sponsored research and collaboration agreements. Position will interact with researchers and business development representatives from peer institutions and industry, as appropriate. Candidates should feel comfortable contacting companies to validate the potential of specific technologies and qualifying their interest in licensing.

Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:
BA/BS degree in relevant fields of Physical Sciences (Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry/Chemical Engineering). General understanding of: intellectual property, business acumen, legal agreements, and client relationship building required.
Ph.D. or advanced degree preferred. Two years' scientific training and/or experience in developing, marketing, and commercialization of technologies. Startup experience a plus. Preference given to those with experience in developing, marketing, and commercialization of technologies as well as experience with reading complex and sensitive sponsored research and license agreements Strong interpersonal and communication skills; adept with information gathering, database management, and ability to prioritize tasks. Ability to select, set, and meet appropriate goals from among competing demands and work independently within a team environment. Ability to produce polished written documents, demonstrated analytical skills and creative problem-solver.
