Course Assistant’s objectives will be to improve overall quality and rate of student participation; improve retention; and improve communication by clarifying and/or reinforcing course content, assignments and material through individualized peer tutoring and additional responsibilities defined by the assigned course instructor.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Follow-up with students who are inactive for discussions and assignments (inactivity determined by instructor).
Check “Ask a Question” area and answer inquiries which only pertain to clarification of course navigation, assignments, due dates, basic technical questions, administrative issues and any other basic questions. Will not answer questions pertaining to grades, when assignments will be graded or if an assignment can be submitted late.
Send reminders 48 hours prior to an assignment due dates.
Using a prepared document, email students prior to course start introducing yourself, listing your responsibilities and those that you are not responsible for as Course Assistant and reminding students where to locate course instructions.
Monitor roster for new students, and using a prepared document, email students prior to course start introducing yourself, listing your responsibilities and those that you are not responsible for as Course Assistant and reminding students where to locate course instructions
Other duties as mutually agreed upon with the course instructor.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
High School Diploma/GED.
Six months related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, especially while using electronic forms of communication.
Comfortable using Microsoft Office and web-based applications like Box
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse populations
High level of comfort with technology and the online course format.
Strong knowledge of content area for specific courses.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
