Job Title Builiding Maintenance Mechanic (S03389) Job Description Summary Montgomery College, Facilities Office, has need for a full-time, Building Maintenance Mechanic, position #S03389. This is a bargaining, non-exempt, Grade 23 position. Non-exempt positions are not eligible to work secondary jobs at the College. Work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
Under supervision and/or direction, incumbents in this job class are responsible for maintaining College facilities, related furnishings, components and equipment. Work involves journey level general building maintenance work in more than one trades' area, including: carpentry, drywall, floor coverings, glazing, locksmith, masonry, painting, and ceilings, as well as perform semi-skilled to near journey level work in other building trades areas. Follow blueprints, drawings and specifications, standard trade practices, building codes and applicable regulations in completing assignments.
Contacts and interaction vary and may involve multiple constituencies such as other trades employees, supervisors, managers, directors and contractors concerning the operation, maintenance and use of the College community as well interaction with students, vendors and the public, providing information, service and assistance.

Duties include but are not limited to:
Perform the work of journeymen level carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing and painting to build, install, and finish work related to preventative maintenance activities.
Respond to service calls for College building maintenance and repairs, including but not limited to: painting, wall patches, broken or damaged windows, damaged doors, ceilings, roof patches, and floors.
Maintain repair and preventative maintenance logs
Prepare required documentation for expenditures and work order requests.
Construct/install cabinets, shelves, benches and tables.
Assist and read blueprints
Maintain a clean worksite and shop area.
Store shop equipment (including manual and power tools).
Read blueprints and maps
Identify worn or broken tools and recommend replacement.
Create, track and process work orders using work order database.
Perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED and completion of a vocational or apprentice-level training program in carpentry, masonry, painting, electrical or other building trades work and/or any combination of education, training, and experience providing understanding of the field and the ability to perform the duties of the job.
Minimum of five years of documented experience performing general building maintenance or construction involving carpentry, masonry, painting, basic electrical and/or other building trades work.
Working knowledge of the methods, procedures and techniques of general building maintenance, tools, equipment and materials used, and hazard/safety precautions.
Knowledge of building codes, regulations, OSHA standards
Ability to use the tools, equipment and materials of the trade.
Ability to perform journey level work in one or more of the building trades.
Ability to operate as well as perform routine maintenance and repair of the tools used in the trade.
Excellent customer service skills and the ability work cooperatively with others as well as communicate effectively (verbally and in writing), and follow written and verbal instructions.
Knowledge of basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), the Internet and Windows-based applications may be required.
Ability to plan, layout and complete building construction and renovation.
Ability to use math to plan, compute, measure and layout materials used in the trade, prepare material lists and specifications.
Ability to maintain work records as well as interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
Ability to obtain certification and to safely operate a forklift, if required for job-related duties, in accordance with MOSH/OSHA regulations.
Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Associate's degree in related field.
Journeymen license in any skill trade area.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid driver's license and evidence of a good driving record is required.
