Program Assistant III (Nutrition Outreach Instructor) - Extension Service, Hampshire and Mineral Counties 11251
The WVU Extension Service (WVUES) is seeking applications for a Program Assistant III (Nutrition Outreach Instructor) position. This position, headquartered in Hampshire County , will lead the delivery of direct education and public health outreach for limited-resource, low-income adults, youth and families, including facilitation of skill development, knowledge gain and positive behavior change in the areas of home food preparation (cooking skills), nutrition, food safety, food resource management and physical activity as part of the state, grant-funded WV Family Nutrition Program. This position will primarily serve adults with young children in Hampshire and Mineral Counties.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will travel through the county daily to:
Identify, recruit, enroll and graduate participants for the Family Nutrition Program (a series of research based nutrition education lessons designed to increase the knowledge and improve the behaviors of low-income families and youth.
Apply effective teaching strategies according to participants needs and teach subject matter using approved resources through a variety of settings. Conduct pre and post evaluations to show changes in behavior, knowledge and skill.
Develop, network and maintain positive relationships with a variety of community and state organizations and agencies.
Recruit, train and supervise program volunteers.
Prepare articles based on relevant research-based information. Market programs through various media sources.
Acquire needed donations and facilities for programs within the county.
Communicate effectively with supervisor and other faculty and staff to ensure a positive work situation and gather information regarding clientele needs and local opportunities for programming. Obtain and maintain current knowledge of the communities in the area being served such as demographics and local health and human services.
Seek opportunities to increase programming efforts in the area of public health nutrition and lifestyle intervention.
Collaborate with community partners to develop, plan, implement and evaluate unique public health projects and outreach efforts.
Assist with collecting and analyzing data to identify community needs prior to planning.
Serve as a resource to assist individuals, other healthcare workers and the community. Support other Extension program when appropriate.
Prepare and submit records, reports, pre/post tests, forms, surveys, and other methods of collecting program data as required. Maintain accurate and updated databases using Web-NEERS and other reporting tools.
Maintain directory of county partners, facilities and volunteers. Prepare Memorandums of Understanding for partners to secure facilities, program delivery, evaluations, etc.
Attend and participate in statewide, regional and local meetings, training and professional development opportunities.

Pay Grade: 15
High School Diploma or GED Required
Associates Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience (i.e. HS + 2 additional years of related experience in addition to the required 2 years of experience) may be accepted in lieu of the education beyond high school.
2-3 years experience working with low-income and diverse audiences; working with volunteers; networking with community/local organizations; household management (i.e. grocery shopping, from scratch cooking, food preparation, budget management); maintaining accurate records and reports.
Preferred experience in basic principles of nutrition and food safety.
Valid driver's license (must be able to independently travel through the county on a daily basis)
The following must be obtained within 90 days of hire:
American Red Cross - Basic First Aid Certification
If county requires - County Health Department Food Handlers Permit
If county requires - health certificate (TB test)
