Program Coordinator NC - Extension Service, Jackson's Mill 11215
The WVU Extension Service (WVUES) is seeking applications for a Program Coordinator NC (Outdoor Education and Recreation Coordinator), located at Jackson's Mill in Weston, WV . This position will develop, coordinate and conduct outdoor education and recreation programs at Jackson's Mill State 4-H Camp. In this role, they will have the overall responsibility for outdoor education and recreation programs and will need to manage staff and ensure adherence to safety regulations at all times.
In order to be successful, the ideal candidate will:
Be creative in exploring new program models not normally associated with outdoor pursuits.
Provide leadership in planning, promoting, conducting, facilitating and evaluating the training workshops at Jackson's Mill for adult and youth in outdoor education and recreation, such as shooting sports, archery, fishing, hiking, biking, climbing, nature walks, ecology and games.
Assist in the planning, design and development of outdoor education and recreation facilities and programs.
Lead for developing and conducting outdoor education and recreation youth camps.
Provide assistance to Extension's 4-H Youth Development program in coordinating the 4-H Shooting Sports, Archery and ATV Safety programs.
Lead training workshops to certify returning and new volunteer leaders, and coordinate participation in national certification workshops by volunteers to assure adequate leadership.
Undertake courses to keep your own qualifications and skills current.
Direct and supervise recreation leaders, personnel, and volunteers assigned to the program.
Serve as an instructor in a specialty field of recreation as scheduled.
Explain and demonstrate the use of supplies and equipment, and the techniques and procedures used in the activity lessons.
Maintain equipment and supplies necessary for classes and/or instruction.
Ensure that equipment and facilities are safe and that guests are instructed in safety procedures and follow them, assess risk and act upon any issues that arise.
Participate in planning course content for recreation and leisure time learning programs.
Assist with administrative duties of the recreation program.
Plan and conduct field trips.
Train and supervise assigned staff and volunteers in the activities and related services.
Assist in the recruitment of volunteers and supervise and give direction to any volunteer personnel assigned to the recreation area.
Maintain discipline, cleanliness and inventory control in assigned areas.
Post schedules of monthly activities and special events.
Maintain a stocked first aid kit in assigned area where it is clearly visible and accessible.
Project a positive self-image and encourage enthusiastic participation in programs.

Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2 years of experience working with youth and adults in an adventure sport setting.
1 year of experience developing risk management plans.
Visionary with a commitment to the mission and dedicated to outcomes that empower youth.
Practical knowledge and experience in current youth development principles and techniques.
Strong skills in progressive camp and adventure programs that resonate with today's youth and adults.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to work some nights and weekends including travel and overnight stays.
Valid driver's license
Basic First Aid/CPR and/or Wilderness First Aid must be held or obtained within first 6 months of employment.
Ability to lift and move up to 30 lbs.
Ability to safely maneuver through rugged terrain, climb hills and sustain physical activity.
