Requirements: Bachelor's Degree and at least 1 year experience in Residential Life. Must be accepted and enrolled in a full-time graduate level program at Fontbonne University or in a Higher Education program at another area institution.
Responsibilities: Residence Hall Director, RHD, is responsible for the overall management of three residence halls based on a philosophy of student growth and development. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Student staff hiring, supervision and training
On-Call Crisis Responder
Conflict Resolution and Adjudicate Conduct Meetings
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Residential Life
General Roles and Areas of Responsibilities:
Student: academics come first at Fontbonne University. The RHD needs to take time to study and pursue academic interests. The RHD must stay in good academic standing in their graduate program.
Community Organizer: to foster community environment favorable to each student's intellectual, social, and personal growth. To help establish an environment conducive to living, learning, studying, and socializing.
Role Model, Listener, Peer Advisor, and Mediator: to actively listen, advise and assist individuals and groups of students as well as to mediate conflicts; to model appropriate and acceptable behavior for the residents.
Educator: to ensure that an inclusive community is provided for residents in order to foster personal wellness and community development through oversight of programming.
Community Standards and Restorative Practitioner: to help students be aware of and understand the policies and regulations of the University. RHD's must enforce university policies and adjudicate disciplinary cases in a Restorative Justice model.
Referral and Resource Person: to become familiar with various campus and community resources and agencies in order to make correct referrals and provide general information to students.
Supervisor: to provide supervision and leadership for the student staff, and to evaluate the performance of staff.
Administrator: to assist with general administrative duties and the management of the residence halls.
Crisis Intervention: to serve on an "On Call" weekly rotation as a first responder.
10 month, academic year contract covering fall and spring semesters
Contract start date of Tuesday, August 1, 2019
Average total work commitment of 20 hours a week
Minimum of 10 office hours per week
"On-Call" responsibilities for the campus on a rotational basis
Fall and Spring pre-semester training sessions
Weekly one on one's and staff meetings with student staff members
Assist with staff recruitment and selection
Assist with building openings and closing
Attend RA programs as needed
General availability to residents
$1,000/monthly stipend ($10,000 for 10 month contract )
12 credit hours per academic year at Fontbonne University or $9,440/academic year applied to a Higher Education Masters in the St. Louis region.
