The Office of Student Success welcomes applicants for the Director of Counseling and Prevention Services opening. Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Director will coordinate the Counseling and Prevention Services (CAPS) department’s efforts, staffing and direction in an effort to provide appropriate mental health services to the student population as well as effective outreach to the campus community. Facilitates strategic direction and planning for the and dynamic collaborative supervision to staff. Serves as the lead student advocate for mental health needs on campus.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Coordinates CAPS efforts, staffing, planning and direction through supporting department’s vision and mission. • Is the voice for student mental health concerns throughout campus, while keeping in mind the holistic academic needs of college students. • Supervises full-time Counselors, an Outreach Coordinator/Counselor, and an administrative specialist. Arranges for appropriate supervision of Graduate Counselors as needed. Provides support to counseling operations for clinical interns. • Develop and implement a long-term strategy in partnership with key stakeholders to increase the University’s capacity to address mental health care needs. • Manages department budget planning; balancing everyday needs and university goals. • Provides leadership to departmental assessment efforts, according to best practices based on learning outcomes and research. • Stays up to date on best practices in the fields of mental health overall and in college mental health specifically, through professional association affiliation and involvement. • Member of Campus Life and Student Success Leadership Teams, working collaboratively across departments to best serve students. • Serves as the spokesperson for the campus community regarding mental health needs of the campus. Develops reports and shares data regarding efforts of CAPS, while maintaining confidentiality. • Provides individual and group counseling and/or psychotherapy, assessment, crisis intervention, and on-call services in rotation with other Counseling staff as needed. • Develops outreach programs and activities. • Provides consultation services to student groups, faculty, and staff within the university. • Participates in research and/or data collection in accordance with the rules of the University’s IRB. • Develops and uses electronic programs and other tools to enhance the efficacy of the Counseling Center’s work. These may include but are not limited to Titanium Schedule. • Supports and implements University and departmental policies and procedures. • Performs other assigned functions that contribute to the service offerings of the CAPS and the academic mission of the institution. • The successful candidate will work 40+ hours, including some nights and weekends depending on the needs of the students. On-Call flexibility is required.
Education & Experience Requirements:
• Have at the minimum a master’s degree, Ph.D. preferred with no less than five years counseling experience. • Be licensed to practice according to the regulations of the State of Missouri or be eligible to immediately become licensed. Must be a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Work, or Licensed Psychologist. • Must have experience working with diverse client populations. • Demonstrate knowledge of principles of program development, consultation, outreach, developmental theories of the adolescent and adult, and be able to understand the person in the context of a diverse social and cultural milieu. • The ability to facilitate effective interpersonal relationships and to communicate with a wide range of students, faculty, staff, and administrators. • Training in trauma informed service delivery.
