The Mills College Department of Public Policy and Political Science invites applications for a full time Assistant Adjunct Professor in Political Science with a concentration on American politics and law. The successful candidate will teach, mentor, and formally advise undergraduate students majoring in political science, as well as students in our interdisciplinary Policy, Economics, Politics, and Law major and students minoring in legal studies. This professor will provide support for students applying to law school and organize programming on legal careers. Teaching will include two sections of introductory Law and Society and The American Presidency in the fall and Minority Political Behavior and Constitutional Law in the spring.
This is a one academic year contract position to begin in August 2019 with a salary of $60,000.
The Department of Public Policy and Political Science at Mills College offers undergraduate degrees in political science and the interdisciplinary study of policy, economics, politics, and the law. We also offer a Masters Degree in Public Policy and a joint Masters Degree in Public Policy and Business Administration. The faculty come from a variety of academic fields and value interdisciplinarity and diversity in methodologies and research areas. We serve a diverse student body interested in social justice and politics as a vehicle for change, and we welcome applicants whose teaching and research addresses these topics.
Candidates should possess:
A PhD in Political Science with related experience in legal studies is preferred; however, candidates with a JD will be considered if they can demonstrate sufficient training or work experience in the field of American politics.
Experience teaching undergraduate students, ideally from a diverse student body;
Exceptional pedagogical and mentoring skills;
Familiarity with the law school application process; and
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
This is a full-time, exempt position with an FTE of 1.0. Salary is $60,000.00 per year, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with college-matching after 6 month qualifying period.
