Recruiting for Associate Director, Clinical Trials Operations (CTO)
Scope of Work:
Applications are sought from current UCSF Faculty (All Schools) for the position of Associate Director, Clinical Trials Operations (CTO ) under the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Research. This is an internal UCSF search.
The CTO is a faculty position providing support to clinical trial operations activities at UCSF. The CTO reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Research (AVC-CR).
This is a part time position (~ 20 % time /effort commitment) that will be filled by an existing faculty member. Applicants in the Ladder Rank, In Residence, Clinical X, Health Sciences Clinical or Adjunct series will be considered. Eligible applicants must have an earned doctorate such as a DNP, PhD, MD, DDS , PharmD, DPTSc, DSc, or equivalent. It is expected that the CTO is a clinical investigator with extensive experience with clinical trial conduct at UCSF.
The primary focus of the CTO is to optimize clinical trial activation and conduct for UCSF investigators across all four schools and the graduate division. The CTO will assist the AVC-CR, Office of Research leadership, and relevant campus administrative units (e.g. Office of Sponsored Research (O S R)) in identifying and addressing key areas of clinical trial operations needing improvement. For purposes of this position, a clinical trial is defined as a research study actively involving volunteer patients or community members undergoing an intervention. However, it is expected that many CTO activities will benefit the broader scope of human subjects' research activities at UCSF.
The specific priorities of the CTO will be determined by the incumbent in
collaboration with the AVC-CR and the Vice Chancellor of Research (VCR).
General responsibilities will include:
Improving the clinical trial activation and conduct process for UCSF.
Improving knowledge of and satisfaction with the clinical trial activation and conduct process among UCSF investigators.
Working with OSR leadership to develop and maintain a "clinical trial activation dashboard" that allows investigators to track progress of their clinical trial activation.
Working with OSR leadership to develop and maintain a clinical trial "customer service unit"/navigator responsible for responding to and resolving problems encountered by UCSF investigators during the clinical trial activation process.
Engagement with CTSI-supported programs relevant to clinical trial operations (e .g . clinical research services, participant recruitment services) to achieve the goals of the CTO.
Engagement with the NIH sponsored Trial Innovation Network (TIN; a multi-institutional CTS I-based initiative aimed at enabling the more efficient conduct of multi-center clinical trials) as required by the CTSI and to achieve the goals of the CTO.
Other clinical trials operations -related activities as identified by the AVC-CR and the VCR.
These activities will require regular interaction with research faculty and staff on all campuses. The CTO will have administrative support through CTSI and an annual budget to be negotiated with the AVC-CR for general operations, innovation and development.
