Salary Range: CSU Salary Schedule: $2,923 - $5,129 per month (Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,000 - $5,000 per month)
The incumbent in this position is a member of the University Housing team. In conjunction with the Executive Director, Associate Directors and other managers, staff, and students, this position assists in carrying out the mission and philosophy of University Housing and is responsible for supporting and contributing to a positive atmosphere that facilitates respect, inclusivity and collaboration.
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, Outreach & Communications, and working in collaboration with other Outreach & Communications team members, the Outreach Specialist provides event coordination, marketing and communications support to engage students, parents/supporters and faculty/staff in the University Housing experience. The position assists with creative marketing, branding and communications campaigns; plans and executes events; provides logistical, administrative and clerical assistance; and completes research and budgeting tasks.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Education and Experience:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and public relations, or a related field. A graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Licenses, Certificates, Credentials:
Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Strong technical writing and editing skills; demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise, professional quality documents for internal/external publication.
Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
Basic knowledge of applicable copyright and other laws pertaining to written materials, news media and confidentiality.
Fundamental knowledge of protocols and institution etiquette related to public relations. Basic knowledge of market research and related techniques.
Basic knowledge and understanding of media outlets including print, television, and radio. Ability to work with the media for the coverage of events.
Demonstrated professional skill organizing and coordinating special events.
Demonstrated ability to speak professionally to large groups of people and ability to direct large groups for tours.
Strong interpersonal and public relations skills to develop and maintain relationships within the University and local communities.
Ability to utilize public relation skills to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures.
Ability to analyze situations, apply independent judgment, discretion and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough and creative solutions.
Demonstrated customer service skills, including a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
Ability to maintain high quality/standards of work, ethics, commitment, and professional responsibility.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications within a diverse population, strong listening and interpretive skills, and the ability to deal positively with unexpected developments and diverse perspectives in and outside the University.
Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, online systems, Internet and calendaring and email systems.
Knowledge of basic web communication techniques and associated software.
Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies and procedures.
Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.
Experience planning, organizing and coordinating long-range activities and events.
Experience in event accounting and management practices and a comprehensive knowledge of state, corporation, and/or budget guidelines, including those involving state hospitality.
Experience in using PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, and electronic workflow.
A Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.
This position classification has been defined as non-exempt and is subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Retired CalPERS members selected for this vacancy must request and be approved for reinstatement from retirement prior to the start date. Employment of retired CalPERS members will typically be for 90 days or less and must be for work requiring specialized skills or for a bona fide emergency to prevent stoppage of business.
