The Section of Hospital Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Cincinnati, Ohio, is seeking an Internal Medicine Physician to expand our inpatient services at UC Medical Center and also undertake teaching activities in the Department’s Graduate Medical Education program.
Job Summary/Duties: Provide direct patient care services to medical inpatients at UC Medical Center, including overnight admissions and cross coverage of two 26-bed units. Participate in the graduate medical education of the Department of Internal Medicine.
Schedule: Clinical duties will be 7-on / 7-off. Shift length of 12 hours. 147 shifts per year.
Provide in-house, overnight cross coverage for approximately 50 patients admitted to the Hospital Medicine service
Admit and workup new medical patients from the Emergency Department
Provide general internal medicine consultative services for inpatients on the psychiatric units
Lead “rapid response” and “code blue” teams in the assigned patient tower
Monitor progress of admitted patients, adjust therapeutic interventions, and engage specialty consultation when appropriate
Perform invasive diagnostic procedures to include lumbar puncture, paracentesis, and others as competency permits
Serve as small group facilitator for the Department of Internal Medicine Program’s “academic half-day didactics” during which case studies and medical literature are reviewed with medical residents
Participate in the quality improvement framework of the units
Minimum Qualifications: Must have all of the following prior to effective date of appointment: 1) Medical degree (MD, DO, or foreign equivalent); 2) Completion of a 3-year Internal Medicine Residency; 3) Board eligibility in internal medicine as defined by completion of a three-year internal medicine residency.; 4) Licensure by the State of Ohio Medical Board, with a valid DEA license for Schedule II-V, and all independent prescriptive authority therein; and 4) A valid ACLS certificate.
