We are seeking to recruit a post-doctoral fellow who is an expert in systems neuroscience, electrophysiology, and in vivo calcium imaging to study mechanisms of neuropathic pain. We have developed unique tools to monitor and modify cortical neuron activity in vivo and would like to now apply them to study abnormalities in cortical microcircuits with electrophysiological, molecular and imaging approaches. These approaches will be combined with behavioral assessment of pain like behaviors to understand the link between neuronal activity and pain development and maintenance.
For this position we are seeking highly motivated individuals, with a proven track record of success, if possible immediately after their PhD, and in any case no more than four years after their PhD. The projects will be conducted in a stimulating and highly interdisciplinary environment at University of Maryland School of Dentistry and School of Medicine.
The post-doctoral researcher will study cortical and brain stem mechanisms of neuropathic pain. The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with a research team to collect and analyze data, prepare manuscripts for publication, and participate at national and international level meetings.
PhD in psychology, neuroscience, pain or related field and experience with animal research, electrophysiology and calcium imaging is desirable. The candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, be strongly motivated, and work well in a team setting. Experience with computer programming is a plus (MATLAB). The position is initially available for one year and may be renewable.
Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until a suitable candidate is located. Applications must be submitted online and include (1) a letter of application describing prior research experience, current interests, and career goals; (2) a curriculum vita; and (3) names, mailing addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers of at least three references. Please send inquiries to Radi Masri, BDS, MS, PhD, firstname.lastname@example.org.
