Designated Institutional Official (DIO) will have primary responsibility for the residency and fellowship programs reporting directly to the Vice President of Education for UC Health and Senior Associate Dean for Educational Affairs, UC College of Medicine.
The University of Cincinnati Medical Center, in affiliation with the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is the Sponsoring Institution for more than 65 ACGME accredited residency and fellowship programs along with more than 30 other medical specialty programs and programs in dentistry and podiatry. There is opportunity to expand our programs to West Chester Hospital, a community based hospital within our academic health system.
The new DIO will have the opportunity to take the current Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs to the next level and foster more closely aligned, productive working relationships with partner hospitals.
The ACGME Institutional Requirements describe the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) as: The individual who, in collaboration with a Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), must have authority and responsibility for the oversight and administration of each of the Sponsoring Institution's ACGME-accredited programs, as well as for ensuring compliance with the ACGME Institutional, Common, and specialty-/subspecialty-specific Program Requirements.
Responsibilities include but will not be limited to:
Working in a collegial and cooperative manner with all other leadership.
Ensuring the GME programming is coordinated smoothly with undergraduate medical education and other health professions students.
Ongoing oversight of curriculum quality and content.
Ongoing oversight to assure program facility needs are being met.
Mentoring and support of Program Directors.
Ongoing management of GME operations including:
Graduate Medical Education Committees
Managing Institutional Support
Effective Communications with Institutional Stakeholders/Partners
As applicable (MD), the individual is eligible for a faculty appointment either in the Department of Medical Education or the appropriate clinical department and would be expected to provide patient care and education relevant to their medical specialty.
As applicable, the individual is eligible for an Associate Dean appointment.
The Graduate Medical Education Office is staffed and supported by an Assistant Designated Institutional Official, Senior Project Analyst, Data Analyst, Accreditation Analyst and two Administrative Assistants.
MD/DO, PhD or EdD with a proven record of educational scholarship at an accredited medical school.
Significant experience in graduate medical education and curriculum development, management, oversight and evaluation, as evidenced by appropriate program leadership positions (previous experience as a Residency Program Director is highly desirable).
Robust understanding of the ACGME and experience with ACGME site visits and preparation for accreditation process and review.
Proven ability to coach and mentor physician educators.
Proven ability to successfully integrate the needs of residents with those of other relevant groups (residents, faculty, administrators, hospital and clinic staff) participating in GME.
Proven ability to embrace and drive change.
Ability to be an advocate for the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and their unique academic medicine missions.
If applicable (MD), academic achievements to support a faculty appointment within the appropriate clinical department at the rank of Associate Professor within the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
If applicable (MD), ability to obtain an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Ohio.
