The Caruso Research Group at UMKC seeks qualified candidates for the position of Research Engineering Technician II. The incumbent will perform a variety machine shop based duties in support of research in both the department of Physics and Astronomy as well as the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Work will involve performing standard shop tasks and other tasks as assigned
Machine shop execution: Lathe, Mill, drill press, bandsaw, for the completion of work orders requiring, precision machining, assembly, mass production, or modification.
Programming of CNC systems for automated machining of parts/subcomponents
Review work order designs to ensure they are within equipment capabilities. Submission of design changes to originator for approval based on design review
Machine shop house keeping. Organization, cleanup at end of work day, paperwork.
Equipment repair and troubleshooting for Departments of Physics and Astronomy; to include pump repairs, component level electronic repairs, plumbing and other related items
Provide a timely response to the needs of ongoing work, related assemblies design, and implementation;
Professional interactions with students and peers through verbal and written communications;
Continuous professional development and ability to complete required training;
Implementing solutions for operational and technical needs of research activities;
Procuring materials, parts, and instruments in alignment with research/project goals as directed;
Maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Bachelors education in relevant area of expertise such as manufacturing technology
Proven experience in a machine shop, fabrication facility, or experience repairing, maintaining, using heavy equipment and tools
Labview or MatLab programming experience.
Shop certification (mill, lathe, drill press, saws...) May be waived if there is verifiable experience working in a machine shop or similar environment
3D modeling software
Ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance
$19.47 - $27.38
Full-Time (Benefits Eligible), Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm or comparable. Culture of flexibility is supported.
