The Fung lab focuses on understanding how chromosomes segregate during meiosis. We use a combination of high-throughput sequencing and chemical screening techniques as well as in vivo microscopy, molecular biology and genetics to study problems related to meiosis and infertility. We work with yeast and occasionally work with patient data. In addition, we use quantitative methods to analyze data, including deep learning and custom programming approaches (Python, R). The applicant would be responsible for learning all these techniques under the supervision of a postdoc or staff scientist and apply them to a number of ongoing projects. The applicant will be required to gain expertise in a number of lab methods, be responsible for general lab safety and organization. The applicant is expected to keep good lab notebooks, report to the supervisor minimally weekly and learn to be relatively independent. The applicant is expected to attend lab meetings and present results. You also may have to mentor undergraduates who come to the lab.
