This position is in the Department of School of Medicine Custodial/OFMD. This position is for the Medical School Campus.
Position oversees Area Supervisors, Leads, floor technicians, and Custodial teams on a daily basis throughout the campus. Ensures staff follow department process, policies and best practices. Familiarizes newly hired custodians to their assigned work areas and observes quality and quantity of the work performed; trains on proper cleaning techniques and equipment usage; orders and distributes supplies/materials. Promotes good customer service while resolving customer concerns. Performs inspections for work quality and building needs.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Team leader for safety in work area assigned. Responsible for training all employees in span of control and participating in monthly safety meetings. Discuss all safety issues and provide proper personal protective equipment. Investigate accidents and make determinations as of cause of injuries.
Oversees supervisor and assists in managing floor technicians and custodians on a daily basis with regard to quantity and quality of work. Inspect all assigned areas frequently to ensure that work performed meet service level quality standards, utilizing computer aided inspection systems and other department provided tools, etc.
Investigate routine complaints and inquiries concerning custodial services and takes appropriate action, as necessary.
Evaluate the performance of custodial personnel; Set goals/objectives and provide written evaluations semi-annually.
Ensure that all keys and pagers area checked in and out according to procedure.
Screen job applicants, conduct interviews, make hiring decisions, perform other on-boarding tasks as needed.
Learn and apply knowledge of the schedules, procedures and use of equipment and supplies used in custodial work.
Provide on the job training for new employees with regard to every phase of their job; provide continuous training using on the job coaching methods for current employees; also, provide training on new products and/or equipment when necessary.
Work with department management team to ensure adequate supply of products and chemicals are readily available for staff use.
Evaluate and assist in the selection of new cleaning products, materials and equipment.
Responsible for periodic on-call duty.
Work with management team, fellow supervisors, and team members on staffing, paperwork, scheduling issues, coaching, training, and career development. Work with Lead custodian to train and develop.
Associate’s degree is required.
5 – 10 years of housekeeping experience at the managerial level in a university, hospital or large corporate/industrial complex is required.
Experience should include line responsibility for technical personnel and budget administration.
Bachelor’s degree highly preferred.
Certifications by professional associations are preferred.
Minimum of 2-4 years’ demonstrated experience or training in the areas of management and floor care preferred.
Floor care certificate preferred or willing to obtain in 6 months.
Valid Missouri CDL/Class E driver license or Illinois Class D license.
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Competent in cleaning techniques and all phases of floor care.
Ability to plan and organize activities.
Ability to follow safe working practices to ensure safety for themselves and others.
Ability to utilize computer equipment for communication and documentation.
The hiring range for this position is $55,370 - $71,968 annually.
