Employment Status: Part-Time, "non-exempt," temporary position (six months) with the possibility of renewal.
Work Schedule: Part-time; 16 hours per week between the hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; (A schedule of Tuesday & Thursday is preferred).

Under general supervision, the Financial Aid Coordinator serves as the initial staff support for the Financial Aid function at the Palm Desert Campus. This position will work in a high volume, high profile office and provide accurate information to all client groups in a professional manner. Responsibilities include, but are limited to:
The incumbent provides strong customer service; provides responsive information and quick resolutions to problems that adhere to CSU and CSUSB policies and procedures.
Explains and advises on matters related to financial aid application and delivery.
Understands and accurately explains a wide variety of procedures, Federal, State and institutional policies and protocols.
Makes recommendations to supervisor to resolve complex and non-routine problems through sound reasoning and judgment.
Timely follows up on promised outcomes and/or directives from supervisor.
Ensures follow up communications to customers; provides informational services.
Provides significant help with the initial processing of financial aid applications, support documents used for the review of all the programs administered or maintained the Financial Aid function at the Palm Desert Campus
Identifies and applies the appropriate aspects of the information to the diverse circumstances presented by the multitude of financial aid application circumstances;
Performs systematic standard business computations.
Manages a heavy workload so that numerous project deadlines are met.
Gives feedback and recommendations to leadership staff members to allow for appropriate quality changes and improvements in the organization.
Serves as backup to department reception area.
Distributes and accepts documents integral to the completion and verification of data reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Assistance (FAFSA) by students and their parents.
Assists students and parents in the appeal process for cases in which their financial circumstances are not addressed within the standard application processes.
Complete reporting documents from outside agencies, i.e. Vocational Rehabilitation, Public Assistance and Housing, regarding costs, financial resources, and enrollment status as requested by the student(s).
On occasion, provide financial aid presentations on the subject of financial aid to students, parents and other interested parties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Graduation from high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents. Bachelors degree preferred.
Equivalent to three - four years of general office clerical and administrative support experience that has provided the applicant with the knowledge and abilities related to financial aid.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Thorough knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; office methods, procedures, and practices; and university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
Ability and specialized skills to: coordinate many different administrative duties.
Interpret and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures.
Set deadlines, priorities, and complete projects accordingly.
Learn and retain new information; read and comprehend written policies and procedures demonstrated excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude.
Follow a strict schedule.
Draft and prepare memoranda and correspondence.
Keep moderately complex records and files; screen mail, telephone calls, and visitors.
Maintain confidential files.
Perform standard business math, such as calculate ratios and percentages, track financial data, and make simple projections.
Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationships.
Read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
Operate standard office equipment and software including but not limited to Oracle PeopleSoft, OnBase, Microsoft Office and other financial aid software.
Strong communications skills with the ability to interpret complex processes into easily understandable steps which the student and their parents can follow.
Ability to apply independently a wide variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist.
Ability to provide presentations in evenings or outside of the standard work schedule.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
