In this exciting role, you will be responsible for the organization,continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the Cardiovascular Perfusion Program and professional content! You will also provide leadership to support programs that are expected to experience significant change, expansion or evolution over time!
There is not a clinical assignment associated with this role. The Program Director must allow adequate time for both administrative and teaching responsibilities.

The Perfusion Program Director shall provide the necessary leadership to the perfusion education program to assure student-centered education process in a cost-effective manner in an environment which continuously promotes quality improvement, evidence based medicine, safe perfusion practices, and patient center care. The Director provides expertise and direction in the areas of perfusion education consistent with the census curriculum, national clinical standards of care, perfusion scope of practice, strategic planning for future growth, and programmatic accreditation policies and programmatic protocol development.
The position is responsible for selecting, developing, and training students to be successful in the profession of perfusion. The position is responsible for development, implementation and overseeing of all aspects of the curriculum, including didactic, simulation, and clinical components, and administrative and financial activities of the program. The program director will actively participate in didactic instruction and will be knowledgeable in all courses delivered in the program with the ability to delivery any and all lectures given in the program. The program director guides the clinical instructors and clinical affiliation to comply with the guidelines of the program and accreditation standards in the realm of student clinical education and their supervision of the students in the program.
Specifically, it is the responsibility of the director to ensure the students of the program are effectively prepared for successful employment in the perfusion profession which helps assure the institutional and programmatic goals achieve its mission and educational objectives. The program director is responsible for evaluating and assuring the clinical education effectiveness of the program including a schedule of regular contact with clinical affiliates, oversight of students, participation in simulation sessions and didactic instruction.The program director must be responsible for the organization, administration, and annual review of the program and report submission to the programmatic and institutional accreditors. The review of effectiveness of the program must be done annually through evaluation and be reported to all stakeholders of the program. In conjunction with or in the absence of the Clinical Coordinator, the Program Director will develop and maintain clinical affiliate sites, provide lectures, participate in simulation sessions, and participate in oversight of clinical activities.
The program director will oversee the clinical coordinator and other faculty instructors of the program to ensure that curriculum of the program is delivered effectively and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the program. The program director will collaborate with the clinical coordinator and faculty to establish short and long-term goals to develop both the program faculty and the program.
The program director will have 100% (1 FTE) time dedication to the perfusion program.

Â·(1) A baccalaureate degree; (Master's Degree Preferred)
(2) Five (5) years of professional experience as a perfusionist;
(3) Two (2) years of experience as an instructor in an accredited educational program in perfusion; and
(4) Proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, program planning and counseling.
(5) License in Clinical Perfusion
Monday-Friday, (8:00am-5:00pm), but flexibility to work additional hours as needed is a MUST!
Cardiovascular Perfusion Technology involves the study of physiology, pathology and associated equipment used to support and/or assume the function of the heart and/or lungs during medical procedures. The perfusion technologist prepares and operates the heart-lung machine and other sophisticated equipment as directed by healthcare physicians. The perfusionist measures various blood and other parameters to identify appropriate mechanical, pharmacological and thermal manipulation to maintain tissue viability. To perform these tasks the perfusionist must have a thorough understanding of the both respiratory and circulatory systems and be able to operate complex equipment. Additionally the perfusionist must be capable of handling stressful situations, pay great attention to detail, communicate effectively, and be willing to stay abreast of new developments in the profession.
While most perfusionists are employed by medical centers they may also be hired by individual surgeons, or perfusion companies. Clinical perfusion often requires on-call responsibilities at night, on weekends and holidays. Perfusionists also work in educational institutions as teachers and/or researchers. Further, some perfusionists are hired by industry that manufacture various perfusion related supplies and equipment.
