The Department of Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a national leader in innovative clinical care and teaching, is seeking to fill two tenured/tenure track Research Faculty openings. The focus of these positions will be on conducting interdisciplinary research within areas related to primary care, health services, health policy and population health. We seek candidates who will join the department's growing research team in seeking to enhance care for vulnerable and underserved populations and to influence policy decisions around issues related to primary care practice. Successful candidates will demonstrate the capacity for high-quality research, teaching, and clinical care (depending on qualifications), and will be expected to publish in top-tier academic/medical journals. Securing grant funding is expected.

Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Research: This position will need to generate scholarly productivity by generating extramural funding, producing 2-4 research manuscripts annually, disseminating research through presentations and publications at the national, local and state level will be expected, and participating in the department's vibrant scholarly environment, including teaching and mentoring a variety of learners, collaborating with others within and external to the department on research proposals, and in other ways helping the department continue our national leadership.
Teaching & Education: Like all other faculty in the department, this position will be expected to fulfill the institutions' teaching mission, including teaching various learners and faculty in research methods as appropriate. In addition, the individual will serve as a mentor to students and fellows.
Clinical (if MD/DO): Clinical responsibilities will be determined by application's qualification and training, all determined with the fair and standard allocation of credit applied to all faculty. This could include continuity clinic in the UNC Family Medicine Center, or clinical care and teaching in the hospital on the Family Medicine Inpatient Service or in the Observation unit, among a variety of other clinical possibilities.
Institutional Citizenship: All faculty are expected to work as part of the larger team to improve access, reduce cost, improve quality, and promote efficiency and better health outcomes. Research faculty are encouraged to engage in community outreach and attend professional events as appropriate, to assist with program development and building professional relationships.

Education and Experience:
These positions are envisioned for an experienced researcher interested in working within a vibrant, nationally-prominent research department to help us achieve greater excellence and impact. While junior candidates will be considered, strong preference will be given to mid-career or senior faculty who have: a.) a record of ongoing extramural funding, including current funding as a principal investigator; b.) a consistent track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals; c.) a well-defined research focus; and d.) potential to collaborate with one or more existing Departmental research faculty to strengthen current lines of research (see https://www.med.unc.edu/fammed/research/ for information on the Department's current research faculty and activities).
Candidates must have demonstrated capacity to work in a highly collaborative research team and maintain positive and productive relationships within and outside the department, including project funders and clients. Excellent methodologic skills are required, along with demonstrated commitment to student mentoring and teaching.
