The Department of Surgery is seeking a full-time Medical Coder to join our Billing Team. Employee will perform technical and administrative work reviewing, abstracting and assigning accepted medical codes for reimbursement of clinical and/or professional charges and will assure accuracy of medical records in compliance with third party, state and federal regulations. They will be responsible for outpatient and inpatient charge entry/charge capture process and for entering data submitted from our clinical and inpatient settings into our EPIC billing system. They will also work closely with Clinical Financial Services to assist with insurance denials and follow-up.
This is a clinical support services position.

Graduation from HS or equivalency plus: Medical coding training certificate or one year of demonstrated coding experience or completion of a two year Health Information Technology degree or an equivalent combination of related training and experience. Special Conditions for Continued Employment: Must have CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CCSP (Certified Coding Specials- Physician) or applicable coding certification within two years of hire, and maintain throughout employment.

The department includes 31 full-time faculty members in the sections of: transplantation surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric surgery, surgical oncology, trauma and acute care surgery, bariatric and general surgery.
