A dynamic neuroscience research group at the University at Buffalo (UB) is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate focused on understanding how drugs of abuse and stress mediate behavioral, molecular, and cellular plasticity. Our lab is engaged in many exciting projects using a multifaceted approach from molecules to behavior. We apply advanced molecular/viral manipulations to sophisticated behaviors, most often in rodent models of drug seeking and relapse-like behaviors. Techniques used in the lab include animal behavior, confocal microscopy, gene therapy, and molecular techniques to help elucidate how drugs of abuse hijack the brain’s reward pathway. We are looking for a scientist with a deep enthusiasm for investigating the cellular and behavioral mechanisms of psychiatric disorders. All members of the laboratory are encouraged to develop a scientific focus based mutual interests, and are given all necessary resources to develop independent projects and aims.confocal microscopy, gene therapy, and molecular techniques to help elucidate how drugs of abuse hijack the brain’s reward pathway. PhD in Neuroscience or related discipline.
A PhD with research experience in the handling and use of animals is preferred. Experience and/or an interest in molecular methods and experience in small rodent surgical methods would be an advantage, however applicants that have strengths outside of these areas are also encouraged to apply. Other preferred characteristics include: excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong publication record and proven ability to work effectively both independently and as a part of a team.
