The primary purpose of the position is to provide instruction in clinical mental health counseling and other core counseling courses for Master's degree counseling students. Primary duties and responsibilities include teaching graduate level courses in clinical mental health counseling and core counseling areas. Providing advisement, clinical supervision, and service to the department, college, and university committees.
The successful candidate must: (1) articulate and pursue a pertinent research agenda that produces manuscript publications in top-tier journals with high-impact factors in the discipline area, (2) procure extramural funding from foundations, businesses, corporations, and agencies that support the research agenda, and (3) facilitate presentations at well-respected international and national conferences or meetings. Serving on dissertation committees is also expected. This is a nine month tenure track position.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Department of Counseling (COUN) at North Carolina A&T State University is housed in the College of Education and is comprised of master's programs in Mental Health Counseling – Clinical, Mental Health Counseling – Rehabilitation, and School Counseling as well as the PhD in Rehabilitation Counseling and Rehabilitation Counselor Education. All four programs are accredited by the Council on the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Course work in the Department is generally offered in the evenings to accommodate the professional development needs of adult learners. North Carolina A & T State University is classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a doctoral-granting research university (high research activity).

Doctoral degree in counselor education and supervision, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program, or have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as full-time faculty members in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013.
Experience in clinical mental health counseling, teaching in a CACREP accredited counselor education program, providing clinical supervision, and a demonstrated record of scholarly activity are required. A background in marriage, couples, and family counseling is preferred.
Teaching experience in courses related to a Marriage and Family Counseling certificate including couples counseling, advanced theory and practice, families impacted by social justice issues, play therapy, and gender issues is preferred.
The ideal candidate should also possess a well articulated research agenda that yields scholarly activity such as manuscript publications in top-tier peer-reviewed journals in the discipline, procurement of extramural funds, and presentations at well-respected meetings and conferences.
The well qualified applicant will have professional engagement experience including student leadership and experience in social justice and advocacy in clinical mental health counseling.
