The Department of Computer and Information Science at Westfield State University supports majors in both Computer Science and Computer Information Systems, and is currently in the process of developing programs in both Data Science and Cybersecurity. The department is growing its faculty, and seeks an individual with energy, enthusiasm, and a strong commitment to teaching and curriculum development. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to make a real contribution to the department's programs - in particular the emerging Data Science program - and be recognized and appreciated for that contribution.
The Department of Mathematics at Westfield State University supports active major and minor programs, teacher education programs, vibrant extracurricular mathematics student activities, undergraduate research, actuarial program, and internship programs. Departmental research and scholarship span many areas of mathematics, mathematics education, and teacher education. Our faculty members provide scholarship and campus-wide leadership in the use of cooperative learning, teaching with technology, inquiry based and guided discovery learning, and other areas of teaching innovation.
Job Description: (This is a joint position between the Department of Computer and Information Science and the Department of Mathematics.)
The Department of Computer and Information Science and the Department of Mathematics at Westfield State University invite applications for a joint tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in the Fall of 2019.
This new hire will work with the leadership of the departments to develop and grow a data science program, as well as teach courses in both departments that support the program. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and broad potential for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
The teaching load is 12 credits per semester with potential for initial modest course release to support the development of curriculum for a data science program. Teaching responsibilities will be divided equally between the two departments. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Requirements: Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in mathematics, computer science, statistics, or other related field, with an expertise in data science, by September of 2020.
