Posting Summary: The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for the position of Administrative Assistant to the Academic Dean. This individual will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Dean's Office and will serve as a liaison between the Dean and students, faculty and outside constituencies. The position will also include reconciliation of several accounts, travel and other arrangements for candidates visiting during faculty searches, and assistance with accreditation reports. As Summer College is a responsibility of Dean's Office, the individual in this position will handle the initial scheduling of those classes, summer payroll and faculty contracts. Further duties will include managing faculty travel, coordinating student travel approvals and reimbursements for the student conference travel, and assisting with the academic appeals process, student awards, Darden Society Induction, graduation and Dean's List. The Dean's Administrative Assistant operates as part of a team in the Office of Academic Affairs. Additional duties may include working on group projects and covering for others in the office. Finally, the individual in this position will serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for international student visas and as such must be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. lawful permanent resident.
Candidates must have a good working knowledge of MS Office applications including Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as excellent oral and written communications skills, and must be able to work well with others. Experience working in an administrative office is required, with experience in higher education preferred. A bachelor's degree is also preferred.
