Posting Summary: The School of Medicine at the University of Virginia seeks candidates for the School of Medicine Financial Analyst position, reporting to the Controller. The incumbent is responsible for leading the monthly departmental financial analysis process, including understanding and synthesizing financial performance at a departmental and School level.
Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting or financial analysis and demonstrate knowledge in how to independently pull financial information from a variety of systems. Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, leadership and service orientation, effective written and oral communication abilities, administrative effectiveness, and a strong sense of work ethic, integrity, and excellence.
Required Minimum Level of Education: Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent
Required Specific Degree/Training: Bachelor's Degree required
Preferred Minimum Level of Education: Master's Degree
Preferred Specific Degree/Training: Master's degree in accounting, business or related field.
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Some - up to 4 years
Required Specific Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting for financial analysis
Preferred Minimum Level of Experience: Considerable - 4 to 7 years
Preferred Specific Experience: Experience in higher education financial management with an understanding of fund accounting and Governmental Accounting Standards is preferred.
Preferred License or Certification: CPA
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to independently navigate and analyze information from University and School financial system. Ability to validate financial explanations based on actual activities in the financial system. Effective interpersonal skills; strong writing skills and organizational abilities; resourceful, flexible, and creative approach to problem solving; comfort with various forms of technology including spreadsheets, databases, and similar management tools.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Familiarity with state and university financial policies and procedures and reporting requirements. Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards.
