The Division of Research and Economic Development at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for the position of the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Research Services.
The Assistant Vice Chancellor of Research Services reports to the Vice Chancellor of Research & Economic Development and supervises proposal and budget development, and research compliance. Specific responsibilities are listed below.
Coordinate pre-award and post-award activities with the sponsored programs office, maintain current knowledge of grant funding policies, regulations, and procedures, market services of DORED and the Office of Research Services to University constituents, liaise with university departments as required, liaise with sponsors as required to clarify relevant policies, procedures and guidelines, prepare and reports to VC on project status, establish metrics for project progress and commitment compliance, evaluate progress on projects, manage Taskstream assessment for DORED.
Oversee and administer Research Compliance and Ethics within DORED to ensure observance of regulatory requirements governing research compliance. Implement, maintain, and assess research compliance and ethics activities, as well as manage related issues/concerns within the university that fall under the purview of the VC for DORED. Areas of oversight and administrative support include research involving human subjects, animals, biosafety; export controls compliance; management of conflicts of interest for research; and responsible conduct in research. Additionally, the AVC serves as the Research Integrity Officer by facilitating the investigation and resolution of allegations of research misconduct and develops and implements education and training programs for the responsible conduct of research. The AVC interacts with faculty and staff, IT, EHS, HR, reference librarians, Office of the Provost, and Legal. The reporting lines to the AVC includes two compliance officers, the attending veterinarian and three directors.
Other responsibilities include leadership in the daily operations of DORED and other responsibilities assigned by the VC for Research. Among the specific duties are managing positions and hiring proposals in PeopleAdmin, managing approvals in Aggie Mart; and managing strategic memberships, e.g. SPARC and NCABR. Responsibilities also include serving as the DORED representative on key university initiatives and committees, e.g. Taskstream Assessment. In addition, will serve as a resource to the NCA&T research community and ensures university compliance with federal, state, and local laws governing research integrity and compliance.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Division of Research and Economic Development (DORED) manages North Carolina A&T State University’s research enterprise. DORED provides services to faculty and student researchers, to current and potential research partners, funding agencies, and economic development agencies. It is headed by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development.
The Office of Research Services assists researchers by identifying funding opportunities, helping with proposal and budget preparation, promoting and facilitating development of collaborative proposals, and by providing proposal development resources and grantsmanship programming for faculty and grant administrators.

Masters degree in business, education or STEM area; Eight or more years of progressively responsible experience in research administration, including demonstrated high-level knowledge and experience in the administration of sponsored projects or previous management of externally-funded programs in a university setting or similar complex research environment;
Demonstrated experience with regulatory governmental agencies, accreditation or other oversight organizations;
Demonstrated skills in working with research professionals and related personnel;
Financial acuity; effectiveness in managing resources. Strong operational and project management focus;
Experience in the practical application and interpretation of Federal and State regulations including Uniform Guidance, the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Export Control Regulations, and other research compliance issues, etc.
Ten or more years of progressively responsible experience in research administration, including demonstrated high-level knowledge and experience in the administration of sponsored projects or previous management of externally-funded programs in a university setting or similar complex research environment.
