The Departments of Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Computational Mathematics, Science,and Engineering (CMSE) in the College of Engineering at Michigan State University invite applications for a tenure-track/tenured joint faculty position in both ME and CMSE departments in the general areas of Uncertainty Quantification and Advanced Manufacturing Simulation.
Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Engineering or closely-related technical disciplines, with expertise in the topical area listed above. The position will be filled at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level depending on the qualifications and record of the successful candidate. Candidates are expected to establish a sustainable research program, make significant scholarly contributions to their discipline, be an effective teacher and mentor of both undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in institutional and professional service.
Topical areas of interest include, but are not limited to, (i) the development of emerging tools for uncertainty quantification (UQ) in the context of advanced manufacturing, ii) predictive and computational approaches to manufacturing processes, and iii) verification and validation of high-performance computing and simulation.
The successful candidates will each be expected to develop an externally funded interdisciplinary research program of national prominence that includes fundamental and applied research, publication in journals and high quality conferences, and education of graduate students. Candidates must have demonstrated evidence of outstanding research accomplishments, teaching skills, and ability to work effectively with other researchers.

The Mechanical Engineering Department currently has 42 faculty members with a strong commitment to research, teaching, and service and is on a growth trajectory. The department is home to the Laboratory of Advanced Manufacturing Processes (LAMP) and has affiliations with other laboratories and centers within MSU. The Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering (CMSE) is a newly created department whose scientific focus is on the mathematics of algorithms and their application in science and engineering. The department is entering its third year. CMSE has 27 faculty and is working on 6 new hires. The faculty cover both theoretical and applied areas in data science and scientific computing, with particular interest in advancing basic scientific understanding and fundamental design in science and engineering through computing. Scientific areas of strength include biology(omics and structural), accelerators, energy materials and mobility. CMSE has a new PhD program in its second year and a new minor.
