Vivarium Manager Middlebury College
Middlebury College seeks a Vivarium Manager to oversee the operations of its AAALAC-accredited Laboratory Animal Facility. Under the guidance and direction of the consulting veterinarian, the manager will ensure that vertebrate, invertebrate, and marine animals receive proper care in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and experimental protocols, diagnose and evaluate animal health issues, and see that appropriate support services for investigators are furnished. The manager will hire, train and supervise animal care staff, and will provide technical guidance, confirm quality of work, conduct performance reviews, coordinate the ordering and receiving of animals, and monitor experimental procedures.
Bachelor's degree in biology, animal science, or a related field required. Post-graduate study in animal medicine or the equivalent in work experience preferred. Must be AALAS RLAT certified or eligible (RLATg preferred), and have effective working knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations, with accepted principles and techniques in laboratory animal husbandry, and in the diagnosis and evaluation of animal health issues. At least three years' experience in a laboratory animal facility directly working with animals is required.
