The duties of an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department are to contribute in the areas of teaching, research, and service. The expectation is that all tenure track faculty participate in all three of these activities. The level of effort for each of these activities is initially 40/40/20 percent respectively. However, this load balance may shift depending upon individual circumstances with approval from the chair.

In the evaluation of the research performance of a faculty member, consideration is given to financial support, availability of time, number of graduate students supervised, and the availability of equipment.
