Position Summary: The Major Gifts Officer identifies, cultivates, and solicits alumni and friends of Cardozo School of Law with the capacity to make gifts in excess of $25,000. The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for moving a portfolio of 150 prospects through the complete giving cycle: validation, engagement, cultivation, solicitation, gift negotiation and stewardship, and serves as a key member of a dynamic team, and helps Cardozo reach its fundraising goals.
Identify, cultivate and solicit alumni, parents and friends of Cardozo School of Law
Conducts a minimum of 125 personal visits annually to cultivate and solicit prospects and close gifts. Completes a minimum of 15 major gifts asks annually and a minimum of 25 leadership annual fund asks annually
There is also an expectation of 10 planned giving conversations for this position each year
Works in a highly collaborative environment, members of the Institutional Advancement team have opportunities to engage with faculty, participate in project teams, and manage volunteers
Portfolio may include both New York and regional assignments involving travel
Conducts regular validation meetings with prospects and alumni who have not been visited previously to help determine giving potential and opportunities for engagement. Designs and develops solicitation strategies
Manages prospect relationships to enhance continued and increased support and attend events which facilitate contact with prospects
Ensures maintenance of all records in the database in a timely fashion
Prepares solicitation materials, including proposals and executive summaries
Experience & Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree required
A minimum of five (5) years of related experience required
Evening and travel required
Must have demonstrated success in achieving fundraising goals and managing high-level donor relationships
Possess a proven ability to present complex information in a clear and compelling manner is essential
The capacity to clearly comprehend and communicate the School's mission and ongoing initiatives is required
Skills & Competencies: Excellent written and oral communications skills, including the ability to interact successfully both one-on-one and in large group settings Excellent judgement in determining the ability to make appropriate use of resources to further fundraising goals
