The West Virginia University Department of Information Technology Services at the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center is accepting applications for a full-time Professional Technologist 3 in the Support Services (Help Desk) to support the Faculty, Staff and Students of the Health Sciences Center.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Functions as a Lead Professional Technologist.
Assists and may supervise lower level technicians in resolving in depth/complicated computer problems.
Troubleshoots both hardware and software problems that may arise on Health Sciences Center computers, LANs and VoIP phones.
Primary support responsibility for the client side of the client/server networks in the Health Sciences Center including new network client installations, client workstation testing and maintenance.
Support includes troubleshooting hardware, software, network connectivity issues (both internal and external to HSC), and providing software consulting to students and faculty in support of the HSC curriculum.
Installs, maintains, and upgrades software and hardware on HSC LANs and computers; also assists in resolving LAN connectivity issues.
Must be on call to respond to network emergencies/helpdesk support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Must maintain a flexible work schedule as some evening and weekend work may be required.
Bachelor's degree; OR an equivalent combination of education, certifications and work experience.
Four (4) years experience in at least three (3) of the following areas:
Providing support for computers in a network environment including development, troubleshooting and use of maintenance tools.
Configuring computer systems and supporting VoIP.
Proven hands on experience and knowledge of installing and maintaining computer software and hardware.
Experience tutoring computer users in hardware, and software.
Experience and ability to interoperate multiplatform systems and environments over Local Area Networks.
Experience with extracting data and producing reports; relevant programming languages; supporting applications;providing customer service via telephone and in person; repairing both laptop and desktop computer hardware; using Microsoft SharePoint.
Demonstrated ability to operate and configure all current and recent releases of Microsoft Windows.
Demonstrated ability to log on to Local Area Networks (LANs).
Knowledge of operation and trouble shooting of Blackberry, iPhone, Android and other mobile devices.
Demonstrated ability to install computer hardware, operating systems, applications, and utilities on supported computers.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact at all organizational levels and with technical staff, managers, students, and other end-users.
Demonstrated ability to interface computers and peripheral devices.
Demonstrated ability to install and operate audio/visual equipment, and high tech. classroom technologies.
Knowledge of computer security issues, requirements and trends including an awareness of information security laws (such as HIPAA and FERPA) and accepted industry practice.
