St. Charles Community College is seeking a full-time Instructional Designer who will work with faculty members to ensure instructional outcomes are supported as emerging technologies and new media are added to instruction (e.g. digital design, production of DVDs, web-based and print graphics, streaming video, and course design for the Canvas learning management system). The Instructional Designer will identify instructional strategies to address diverse learning styles, learning problems and training needs of student, faculty, and staff. The Instructional Designer will work with administrators and faculty members to develop quality digital instruction that is appropriately supported by Information Technology.
Determines the current state of learner understanding, defines the end goal of instruction, and creates some media-based "intervention" to assist in the transition.
Develops online, hybrid, and blended courses containing online components; assists and supports faculty with the integration of instruction and technology to enhance curriculum utilizing institutional-adopted technologies (web pages, smart boards, and the Canvas learning management system).
Takes leadership in initiating a variety of activities designed to inform, motivate, and train faculty in the skillful use of educational technologies in the teaching and learning process, especially related to distance learning delivery.
Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with members in the college and external constituents.
Works cooperatively with others (Faculty, Learning System Administrator, librarians, web master, and others) to promote awareness and support of distance learning.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (flexible)
Qualifications: Master's degree or equivalent in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or other relevant field with three or more years' related experience is required. A Doctorate degree in a related field with at least one year experience will be considered. Two or more years of online or hybrid teaching is strongly preferred. Must be able to consult and monitor fair use and copyright in digital environments. Must be proficient with: Microsoft Office; building courses in a Learning Management System (LMS) using 3rd party web tools, Social Media applications, and publisher provided digital content that is integrated in or used with an LMS; developing online multimedia materials; and utilizing HTML/CSS. Experience with the following applications strongly preferred: Canvas, Respondus, Adobe Creative Suite, ARC, Camtasia, iSpring, and Snagit.
