Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Project Directors, with the latitude for independent judgment, we seek to hire an Epidemiologist for the HIV/HCV Co-infection Project. The purpose of this project is to improve the prevention, care, treatment and cure of Hepatitis C among HIV/HCV co-infected individuals, particularly persons of color, in Connecticut. The project is being conducted in collaboration with partners in the HIV and HCV fields including the Connecticut Department of Public Health, the Yale Regional partner for the New England AIDS Education Training Center (AETC) , regional substance abuse disorder (SUD) and behavioral health treatment clinics and syringe service programs (SSPs), Ryan White funded clinics, Federally Qualified Health Centers, to create a coordinated program of referral, treatment and co-management of comorbid conditions.
The Epidemiologist will work closely with the Epidemiologist at the CT Department of Public Health to consolidate and expand the current data surveillance system for monitoring Hepatitis C-infected persons in the state of CT (CTEDSS). This position is an instrumental role in the redesign of current CTEDSS database. The epidemiologist will develop a methodology for serial monitoring of HCV PCR for assessment of sustained virologic response (SVR) and perform baseline assessment of current capacity and data completeness of existing system and create plan for upgrading the system. Responsible for matching the HIV database (eHARS) with the Hepatitis C database to determine database of co-infected individuals. Work with clinic-based data personnel to expand data elements to enable creation of the HIV/HCV Continuum of Care. Work with the Yale data manager to transfer de-identified data into research database for further analysis. Create a system of identifying persons who are out of care and/or who have not been offered HCV treatment to link with field epidemiologists to promote entry into appropriate clinical care. Actively analyze data and participate in the drafting of manuscripts.
Preferred Education: Public Health and Epidemiology and research experience (e.g. RN, or Master's Degree in a related discipline (i.e. Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Education, or Research Statistics). Experience in the execution of epidemiologic and/or surveillance studies. Knowledge of infectious disease epidemiology methods.
