AREA AND FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Education and Computing Technologies or designee, the Technical Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining PCs and peripherals, for troubleshooting and solving hardware problems, and for monitoring a local area network system.
CHARACTERISTICS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain the PCS and peripheral systems.
Respond promptly to problems or questions regarding network and systems hardware.
Perform server startups, shutdown, backups and restores.
Provide basic user support for the network.
Install, repair and upgrade computer hardware.
Install and configure software maintenance and upgrades.
Perform system and software maintenance and upgrades.
Assist college staff in the proper use of computer equipment.
Implement security procedures to protect hardware and software.
Maintain system logs and inventory records.
Maintain strict confidentiality and security of student and staff records.
Prepare routine, special and ancillary reports as required.
Perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated experience in computer repair, troubleshooting and networking.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's degree in Computer Science or related area.
Demonstrated ability to work on microcomputers and peripherals including knowledge of appropriate software.
Demonstrated knowledge of desktop operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and Mac OS.
Demonstrated knowledge of a range of diagnostic utilities.
Attend and participate in professional training seminars or workshops.
