About Us

Antioch University is a bold and enduring source of innovation in higher education. Inspired by the work of pioneering educator Horace Mann, Antioch University is a vital, vocal advocate for higher education that promotes the common good, prizes experience, and draws on the strength of a diverse academic community.

The campuses were founded starting in the 1960s as satellites of the original Antioch College, founded in Yellow Springs, Ohio in 1852. Now independent from Antioch College, the five Antioch University campuses continue to thrive, providing rigorous, progressive education from New England to Seattle. Each campus has its own distinct flavor and academic offerings, united by a common commitment to social justice and learner-centered education. Antioch University’s leadership follows an innovative governance structure that is unlike any other university. The leadership team at AU is comprised of a Chancellor, University Leadership Council, Board of Governors and individual campus Boards of Trustees who work together through camaraderie and the ultimate learning experience across all campuses.

Antioch University Los Angeles is one of five campuses around the country that comprise the Antioch University system. The University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association (NCA).

Diversity

Social justice is at the heart of AULA’s mission. In every program, in every class, students are prepared to become agents of positive change, and to combat the devastating effects of racism, classism, sexism, and homophobia.  AULA’s roots in social justice date back to Antioch College, established in 1852 in Yellow Springs, Ohio. As early as 1863, Antioch abolished race as a criteria for acceptance, and was the first school in America to educate and hire women on equal terms as men. AULA began as a satellite campus of the original Antioch, and carries this legacy of social justice into the 21st century.

Social justice is woven into students’ academic, experiential, and community experiences. In class, our students learn powerful strategies to promote equality and fairness through their work, whether it’s providing counseling for the underserved or writing literature that gives voice to the voiceless. Through internships and class projects, students utilize their knowledge in service to the greater community. Students can also participate in events both on and off campus in which they advocate for social change, a skill which will serve them well throughout their careers and their lives.
